A Group of Mother Crows Shows A Bald Eagle Where The Exit Sign Is
Periodically I see a couple of blackbirds or starlings chasing a crow out of their area but it wasn’t until this past Saturday that I saw crows chasing another bird. This was a bald headed eagle that was being escorted out of Moncton.
First I heard crow calls that I didn’t recognize so of course I had to look up to see what was happening. My first instinct was to put my arm over my head just in case I was the target as we have a baby crow in our yard at the moment.
First there was one crow headed toward the eagle and in just a few seconds there were 3 or 4 others, all determined to chase the eagle out of their territory.
By the time I had picked up my camera to get a shot the crows had already driven it nearly out of view. I had to use the zoom so the picture of the bald eagle isn’t very good but it does show that the crows meant business.
It was less than an hour later when I heard that same crow call. This time I looked up to see a herring flying over and the crows gave him the same message as they gave that eagle. NOT WELCOME HERE!!
We’ve grown attached to our newest crow baby which I called Christine and it would have broken our hearts to see an eagle swoop down and take the baby right out of our yard.
