Garden Pests: Japanese Beetles
How to Get Rid of Japanese Beetles
The Japanese beetle arrived in North America right around 1920 and is now a major problem for home owners and home gardeners alike.
As always, when learning about garden pests I like to checkout Wikipedia to see what info they have that’s useful to me, so here a link to the Japanese Beetle on Wikipedia, always great information.
These little guys are about a half inch long or about 10 millimeter and may look cute and cuddly but keep in mind that they like to eat. Non stop actually making your garden look like a skeleton of it’s former self as it eats the entire leaf except for the veins of the leaves.
Japanese Beetles Grub
You may have been digging in your gardens and found these little white bundles of joy. I can see where the adults get their good looks.
Apparently these fat little grubs love to eat roots so they grow big and strong for the change to adulthood.
I had a request from a reader about the Japanese Beetle and though I have seen and destroyed a few it’s never been much of a problem in our New Brunswick gardens so I went looking for a helpful video as always. Enjoy
I may just have to build a Japanese Beetle trap like the one in the video although for now I usually only see a few a year and usually end their tiny hungry lives quickly.
