Our Home Gardening Tools 2011 Wish List
Honey, our friendly pitbull says hi. She didn’t look to interest in what I had to say about our lack of good home gardening tools, so she hopes I don’t bore you with my wish list post.
My wife, Jenny and I have so enjoyed finally having the space for our own home garden. Now we need a few more tools that would make home gardening so much easier and more enjoyable, not that we don’t already enjoy it.
When we bought this place there was a shovel left in the garage so we then had a rake and a shovel. It was a start and at the time we only had a few little flower gardens going.
Now that we have started a vegetable garden and two raised beds we need more tools designed for specific tasks.
One of the first thing we had to get was gardening gloves as my hands aren’t used to hard labour any more and blister up pretty fast. That takes the fun out of gardening pretty fast. Spent a couple of bucks and now have a great pair of gardening gloves.
Next we picked up a spade to help with edging, a round mouth shovel is somewhat harder to make straight edges with. While we were at the garden centre we also bought a garden fork to help break up our clay soil.
Now we are starting a wish list for next year’s gardening season.
Getting An Easy To Use Wheelbarrow
We haven’t picked up that wheelbarrow we need so desperately but we want just the right kind and it would be nice to be able to purchase the one we want locally. But if we don’t see one before next spring we are buying it online.
I want a wheelbarrow with two wheels which I have seen called a garden cart, to make it easier to balance. Getting older as we are it’s so easy to tip an average wheelbarrow and give ourselves just that much more work to do. We have to have one that won’t fall over when we are moving it around.
I have seen one here in Moncton but it was made of rubber and was solid black. Looked awful and we decided against buying that one. Here is the one I am really interested in but just haven’t seen one at any nursery or store here yet.
Save The Earth Rain Barrel
Every little bit counts and as we see our water bill go up every year it makes my wife and I think conservation so we try to use as much rain water as we can to water our gardens. So far we are only using small containers to collect rain at the run-off spout from the eves.
A rain barrel with a tap on it and a protective cover to keep egg laying bugs out would be exactly what we want. I think having three would keep us from using any of the city water.
Just having a good wheel barrow and rain barrel would save us time, money and energy, and we would be helping Mother Nature a bit.
