For The Love of Roses
It’s time to make a change to our front yard. The trees that were along the sidewalk have grown to big to keep off the sidewalk so they gotta go.
Instead of replacing the trees with other trees I thought it would be nice to put in a rose hedge along the sidewalk. I see a few on my walks around the neighbourhood and I love them, especially the red rose shrubs. Especially when they are in full bloom.
I have a few books about gardens and gardening but they are pretty general info, all of which I am learning a little at a time but for more information on roses I needed to look elsewhere.
I took a few minutes and headed over to the Cornhill Nursery web site to see what info Bob has about roses and shrubs that can help us to decide.
When it comes to roses I have a preference, it has to be red. Other colours just don’t appeal to me like the bright red.
The image came from the Cornhill Nursery site and was taken by Bob, the owner.
I would be proud to have a rose hedge that looked as beautiful as the rose in this image. I am sure Bob will give me all the advice I need to make a healthy rose hedge. One without big gapping holes like some of those I see around Moncton.
The Champlain Rose grows to about 80cm in height as well as 80cm wide and likes full sun.
We live in hardiness zone 4 so we should have no problems growing them.

I too love rose hedges along front walks! Good luck with your project!
Thanks Sheila
I was checking out your garden site and you have some great content but most of all I really love the pictures you have. I really suck at taking pictures as my hands shake so much. I am planning to use a tripod this coming season to see if I can some well focused and clear of shaking pictures.
I am hoping the new digital camera will help to take out the shaking.
Your picture with the violets growing from a rotting tree trunk is pretty cool and something I will do this year with the tree stump we have with two bird houses on it. Thanks for the idea
