Electronic pest control devices have existed for over twenty years but have only recently experienced a growth in popularity and many claim it is due to their being environmental ally friendly. The opinions vary greatly; some believe the electronic pest control devices work while others boldly declare that they do not. There are two basic types of electronic pest control devices, the ultrasonic and the electromagnetic.

The Ultrasonic Pest Control Device Offers High Success

The ultrasonic pest control device claims that the high-frequency, short wavelengths are much too high to be heard by the human ear but are said to disturb and discourage insects and rodents from living in an area in which the device is operating. While is it true that these animals and insects are able to detect the high frequency, that is not proof that the detection is sufficient to control or repel the pests from the desired area.

Ultra sound has proven to be detectable by these pests but there has been no scientific discovery to support the claims that the ultrasonic pest control device actually works. While the companies that make these devices claim that they can in fact reduce insect and rodent infestation, private tests have been unable to prove such claims. There have been situations where rodents were momentarily repelled from a certain area but it soon became obvious that with time the same rodents become accustom to the sound and returned to the site after a few days absence.

The Electromagnetic Pest Control Promises Big Rewards

The electromagnetic pest control devices promise to alter the electromagnetic field of your household, thereby turning your home into one large pest repellant location, protecting you and your family from undesirable insects, rodents, and other pests.

While the claim is large and would be ideal in a perfect world, there is absolutely no scientific proof to support these claims. In fact, there is more than enough proof to discredit this claim. It is a fact that every household appliance that operates electronically emits an electromagnetic signal that wraps itself around the wiring that is carrying the current into your home.

Tests have proven that the electromagnetic field emitted from the electromagnetic pest control machine does not create a high enough current to actually be detected by the pests it is designed to drive away. So the big question actually becomes, if the Electromagnetic pest control device is designed to discourage the pests due to the level of the electronic magnetic field, how can they effectively be discouraged if the level isn’t even high enough to disturb them?
