I would say that August 2008 has to be a record in my mind. I can’t remember, in my 55 years, getting so much rain in August. Usually August is a very dry month and we are asked to be careful with our water usage.

Friends were over last night and they have had the last two weeks off. Unfortunately for them they had rain every single day. But nearing the end of their vacation they decided they were taking a day and heading out on their motorcycle rain or shine. Well they heading it and after just ten minutes on the road the rain stopped and they had a great day on the road.

Maybe they should have done that sooner and they would have had a nicer vacation.

My garden should have done better with all this rain but between the buckets of rain and the high winds we don’t have to much left to harvest. It bummed me out for a bit but this being our first year as backyard gardeners I’ll choose to learn from the experience and stake things better next year.

I have to admit that I waited to bit too long before planting so I really think if my little backyard garden was rooted a little longer they would have endured through the rain.

The rest of our yard looks very lush and healthy.

My office has a window that looks out over our backyard and as August moved on and the rains continued I actually expected to see an arc float by.

On a happier note our wild Atlantic salmon numbers are increasing as the rain has raised the rivers so much the salmon are moving up the rivers to spawn in record numbers again. Now that makes me feel a lot better as I am hooked on fly fishing here in New Brunswick.
